Saint James Evangelical Lutheran Church

Global Missions

CROP Walk

Organized by the Cluster Outreach Center, the Pottstown CROP WALK's goal is to help stop hunger here in our community and around the world, through self-help development initiatives.  Each year St. James has members who participate in the walk and raise money through pledges.  The WALK is on a Sunday afternoon in early October.

Fairly Traded Items

Fairly traded products such as coffee, tea and chocolate are made available each week after worship purchase to advocate and promote fair trade, which allows the benefits of trade to actually reach the farmers and their communities.

Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission

Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission is located in Rockport, Arizona. There are many missionaries and volunteers who are hard at work supporting the House of Prayer Lutheran Church and the Navajo Lutheran School. Church members support the Mission through the collection of labels from food products of the Campbell's company to be redeemed for school vans.

Relay for Life

Each year St. James has a team that participates in the Pottstown Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event at Pottsgrove High School, team members take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Salvation Army Christmas Collection

A St. James tradition is helping The Salvation Army with their bell ringing and bucket collection. St. James rings the bell at the bucket collection location, usually at the Boscov's entrance (closest to Sears) of the Coventry Mall on a Saturday afternoon in December.

Work Mission

The Work Mission Ministry is a yearly trip by members of St James to assist disaster victims.  We usually work through a disaster relief coordination organization such as Lutheran disaster Relief or CRWRC.  St James has gone on work missions for more than ten years.

Most of the work mission participants are unskilled or lightly skilled.  Experience and ability are assessed during trip planning and are never a disqualifier to participation.  Participants are male and female, teen and senior, journeyman and apprentice.

The experience is always unique.  The mission members see how other people live.  We help in time of need.  We grow in fellowship with one another.  Each trip changes lives.
